The Chainspikes are aptly named for the spiked chains they use in combat. They are sadistic, cruel, and brutal to the last ounce of blood in their veins. The Chainspikes wear chainmail armour, or chain shirts, and drape themselves with as many spiked chains as they can carry. As a result of this, members of the Chainspike clan are typically covered in wounds and cuts that fester angrily. They see these cuts and scars as marks of bravery and strength, and the tougher members of their clan mutilate these wounds in order to keep them infected longer – a show of even greater fortitude for members of the clan that seek to gain superior status. Often members of the Chainspikes grow short beards, which is seen as a great insult by most other tribes. Ordinarily the Warchief of the Horde is the only Orc permitted to grow a beard, but the Chainspikes give little credence to this ancient tradition.
The Chainspikes were once members of Wargoth’s army, but changed sides recently. It is unclear why the Chainspikes decided to defect, though rumour has it that one of their number challenged a high-ranking member of Wargoth’s army to single-combat and tore him to shreds. It is speculated that after this event, the Chainspikes lost respect for the leaders of Wargoth’s army, and sought leaders worthy of their skill and malice. Evidently the generals of Grom’s army have lived up to this code well, but there is no telling as of yet what might set the Chainspikes back on their original path. Their sheer brutality and near-madness in the frenzy of battle makes them terrifying companions – and potentially deadly enemies.
